Check out where Kerry grew up in Alaska!

Kerry Weiland is a member of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Hockey Silver Medal Team - which competed February 12-28 in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.

She grew up on a farm outside of Palmer and started playing hockey at age 5 for MAHA at Brett Memorial.

Kerry’s mother was searching for a sport for her older brother Andy to play and Kerry looked intrigued by the players skating at the rink.  So her mom decided to sign her up too. Kerry was a very shy child, but when she put on her helmet, all of a sudden this very confident, more outgoing person came out.

Needless to say, Kerry immediately excelled in hockey and was a member of the Palmer High Varsity Boy’s Hockey team and became the first-ever female to earn First Team All-Region honors in Alaska prep history.

In 1998, Kerry accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she lettered all four years, was a two time All-American and an assistant captain. Kerry graduated from Wisconsin in 2003 with a bachelor's degrees in Legal Studies and Sociology.

Kerry first made the U.S. National Women’s Ice Team in 2002, as a senior at Wisconsin.  She trained hard for her dream of being on the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team for three years, but unfortunately was not selected to the team.  Within a few days of the news Kerry moved to Lyss, Switzerland to play hockey for the 2005-2006 season and to travel Europe.

In the fall of 2006, Kerry came back to North America and decided to move to Toronto, Canada to play at the high level required to pursue her dream of making an Olympic Team once again. Knowing she could be heart broken again, Kerry would not let her fear of failing to make the Olympic team keep her from following her heart and ultimately her dream of representing her home state of Alaska and the United States on the world stage.  Since that time she has won two Gold medals at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships as well as a Silver in 2007.

Kerry strongly believes that sports provide valuable life lessons.  Throughout her life sports have played a huge role in shaping her confidence, character, drive and teaching her how to set and reach goals. She has taken her attitude toward sports and extended that philosophy into the rest of her life.  The Olympics were a dream come true for Kerry and she is extremely excited to share her medal and experiences with everyone.  She hopes to inspire others to live their dreams.
